CHARITIES

LIBRARY FOUNDATION OF LOS ANGELES

The Library Foundation raises funds to expand and enhance the adult literacy program at the Los Angeles Public Library, one of the most comprehensive of any public library in the state, possibly even the nation.

Contributions to the program provide much-needed support for new literacy centers, literacy coordinators, tutor training, books and other print materials, and self-teaching computer software programs. Currently, the Los Angeles Public Library has 20 adult literacy centers, each staffed with a professional adult literacy coordinator who trains tutors and matches them with students, helps adult learners access and use print and electronic information sources, and promotes adult literacy services to the community.

Four new centers are in the planning stages, but require additional funding before they can become operational.

To learn more about funding opportunities for Adult Literacy, please contact Dawn Coppin, Director of Foundation Relations, at (213) 228-7502.

CRIME LAB PROJECT

The Crime Lab Project is a non-profit organization begun by writers and producers, but now including many members of the general public.

Some Coroners’ offices are still on paper record keeping systems, with no permanent place to house records, and many have no set procedures for retaining forensic identification evidence from unidentified bodies. This results in unsolved murders and missing persons unidentified, and time wasted by investigators because they are denied the use of an important tool -- forensic science.

The Crime Lab Project works to increase awareness of the problems facing public forensic science agencies and seeks greater support and resources for crime labs, coroners’ and medical examiners' offices, and other public agencies that use forensic science, as well as support for forensic science education and research.

The Crime Lab Project, Inc. is 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation and is supported in their charitable and education activities through the Crime Lab Project Foundation.
