PRESS RELEASE The
Left Coast Crime Convention is an annual event sponsored by fans of Mystery
Literature, for fans of Mystery Literature. The intent is to provide an
event where fans of the Mystery genre can gather in convivial surroundings to
pursue their interest in the genre. Left
Coast Crime 20 will take place in Los Angeles March 11-14. 2010.
The convention’s theme, BOOKED IN LA, highlights the special place of
Los Angeles in the mystery noir literature of the early 20th Century. We
are expecting over 500 attendees from around the world.
The convention will feature panels of experts speaking about
mysteries as a literary
genre, awards to recognize outstanding books and people, special outings, and a
booksellers’ room. About 200 mystery authors will be in attendance, as will
representatives from publishing companies and booksellers.
LCC
20’s Guests of Honor will be Jan Burke (author of the Irene Kelly mysteries)
and Lee Child (author of the Jack Reacher series).
The Fan Guest of Honor will be Janet Rudolph, director of Mystery Readers
International and editor of the Mystery Readers Journal.
Mystery author Bill Fitzhugh will be the Toastmaster. Those
already registered for the Booked in L.A. are eligible to also register for
Forensic Science Day at an additional cost.
This pre-convention event will be all day Wednesday, March 10, at the
California State University Los Angeles campus.
The program will include a tour of the Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Science
Center, a crime laboratory serving the LAPD and LA County Sherriff’s
Department. Left
Coast Crime 2010 is dedicated to the memory of Paul Anik, the chairman of the
organizing committee, who passed away in January 2009.
A special award called The Panik (for best Los Angeles noir mystery
published in 2009) will be presented in his honor. The
Convention will take place at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, within
walking distance of the Los Angeles Public Library, the Walt Disney Concert
Hall, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the Los Angeles Museum of
Contemporary Art. Registration
