Calamari Crime

Auction

LibraryMCFLEach Left Coast Crime Convention raises money to support a local literacy organization with funds raised through a silent and live auction, and of course, the famous annual quilt raffle. Calamari Crime’s grantees are the Monterey Public Library and the Monterey County Free Libraries. Monterey has hosted Bouchercon in 1997, Left Coast Crime in 2004, and now LCC 2014, and we can’t think of a better way to thank the city than to throw all the money we can at its libraries.

All proceeds from the auction go to the Monterey Public Library and the Monterey County Free Libraries. Anyone — reader, writer, bookseller, librarian, blogger — may donate an item or two to the silent auction. A few of you are probably working on your auction donations right now — it’s a good excuse not to do actual work! To whet appetites for more than crab cakes and get people ready to spend money for a good cause, we’d like to post photos of your donations. When you have a donation camera-ready, please send a picture to Noemi Levine.

We’d also like to make the starting bids more commensurate with your efforts than they have been, so if you have an idea of the minimum you’d want your donation to bring in, and perhaps the maximum you’d hope for, just let Noemi know.

Lastly, let your imaginations fly (or swim with the otters): What have you always wanted to see at the auction? What would you want to bid on? What can you do to make your donation a cash magnet for the Monterey Public Library and the Monterey County Free Libraries? Send questions &/or answers to Noemi Levine — and thanks!

Please either mail your donations to yourselves at the hotel (the Portola Hotel & Spa will hold packages for guests at no charge) or bring them with you. We’ll be setting up the Silent Auction Room on Wednesday and Thursday, but we will accept donations all weekend!
